ABOUT THE PHOTO
This photo is taken by Leif Liss
The European Green Woodpecker (Picus viridis), known as Gröngöling in Swedish, is a vibrant green and yellow bird with a distinctive red crown. It is commonly found in the woodlands and open landscapes of Dalarna, Sweden, where it thrives in old-growth forests and near meadows. Unlike many other woodpeckers, it spends a lot of time on the ground, feeding primarily on ants. Its loud, laughing call is a familiar sound in the Swedish countryside, making it a beloved species among birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts.
